“chrysalis” is a kind of experiment; a kind of aural poetry that explores the realities of living-in-transit, transition, maybe even limbo or a purgatorial liminality. it’s that kind of feeling when you experience change, but not quite sure why you keep changing — why everything never stops changing.

a chrysalis of sorts.

i'm someone who’s deeply acquainted with change. growing up, i traveled a lot. moved a lot. transitioned a lot. my childhood was spent mostly in buses, planes, ferries, and roads. a life-in-transit. this chrysalis. i’m so used to change that i’ve become deeply terrified of it. wondering when things will finally stop changing, so i can just rest.

but what if the chrysalis is all we have? what if change is the fundamentality to life, and to human living as such? what if there is no being alive apart from change?

what if being alive means giving ourselves over to change, and letting change indwell us?

that is what's wrapped up with this new song called “chrysalis.” it is, i hope, a reminder of the chrysalis. of this life-in-transit. this limbo living, or purgatorial plight called “being alive.” and what a beautiful and messy thing it is to learn to be alive.
